Beijing says that a plan backed by the U.S. for Asia wants to separate countries from China.
Beijing- China’s foreign ministry said on Wednesday that a U.S.-backed economic plan for Asia wants to separate countries from the Chinese economy, but many countries are worried about the “huge cost” of doing so.
At a regular press briefing, Wang Wenbin, a spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity (IPEF) serves U.S. interests and tries to keep other countries out.
On Monday, U.S. President Joe Biden announced this plan. Australia, Brunei, Indonesia, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, the United States, but not China, were the first countries to join.
