An ex-COAS general says that he had nothing to do with fake social media posts that were made up.
RAWALPINDI: Pakistan’s former army chief, General (retd) Mirza Aslam Beg, has said that a social media message being falsely attributed to him is not from him. He called it a fake.
In a hard-hitting audio message, Gen. Aslam Beg said that the campaign against him and the current army leadership is part of a smear campaign against state institutions, like the government.
The former chief of the army staff (COAS) called the Pakistan Army his “pride and identity.” He said that every officer and soldier in the armed forces should get his full respect.
It was Beg’s last message, and he said that as long as he lived, he would keep talking about the Pakistani Army.
The Inter-services Public Relations (ISPR) department also made a short statement to deny the audio clip that has been spreading on social media.
“There is no Mirza Aslam Beg (retired) in the audio clip that is being shared on social media. It is part of a campaign to spread false information and propaganda about government institutions. “The military’s media wing said this.
Earlier, Maj-Gen (retd) Ejaz Awan and Lieut-Gen (retd) Haroon Aslam also said they didn’t write the messages that were being spread on social media.
