S&P/ASX 200 gains 0.18% at close; Australian stocks finish higher

On Tuesday, the Australian stock market closed higher with the S&P/ASX 200 rising by 0.18% in Sydney. The session’s best performers were Westgold Resources Ltd, Whitehaven Coal Ltd, and Ramelius Resources Ltd, all of which saw significant gains. On the other hand, EML Payments Ltd, Megaport Ltd, and Netwealth Group Ltd were the worst performers.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange, with 652 stocks rising, 615 stocks declining, and 412 remaining unchanged. The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, increased by 4.39% to 13.19.

In commodities trading, gold futures for June delivery fell by 0.18% to $1,996.85 a troy ounce, while crude oil for delivery in May and the June Brent oil contract rose by 1.04% and 0.91%, respectively.

The Australian dollar against the US dollar remained unchanged at 0.67, while AUD/JPY fell by 0.35% to 89.52. The US Dollar Index Futures decreased by 0.13% to 101.65.
