Dubai Airport sees a rise in the number of passengers and raises its annual forecast.

Dubai (Reuters) – The company that runs Dubai International Airport said on Wednesday that more than 14 million people went through the airport in the second quarter. This means that the company’s prediction for the whole year has been raised to 62.4 million passengers.

That was the ninth straight quarter in which the number of passengers was higher than the previous quarter. This is because more people are travelling internationally now that pandemic restrictions are being lifted around the world.

Dubai Airports said in a statement that 14.2 million people went through security at the airport from April to June. This is almost three times as many as the 4.9 million people who went through security in the same quarter last year.

The airport is the world’s busiest for international travellers. In the first half of the year, it handled 27.9 million people, which is more than double the number from the same time last year and almost as many as the 29.1 million people who went through it in all of 2021.

The airport operator said that it now expects an average of 5.6 million people to use the airport each month for the rest of the year. This is a 7% increase from what it expected for the whole year.

Dubai Airports said that if you compare the first half of this year to the same half of 2019, passenger traffic at Dubai International has returned to 67.5% of what it was before the virus.

The airport’s first-half cargo volume dropped by 18.9%, to 910,075 tonnes. Dubai Airports said that this was partly because the airport’s capacity was cut for 45 days because of scheduled runway maintenance.

In March, major cargo companies moved their flights back to another Dubai airport. At the height of the pandemic, cargo services were brought together at Dubai International.

In paragraph 4, the number of passengers in 2021 has been changed from 25.9 million to 29.1 million.
