Yellen talked to representatives from Saudi Arabia, Australia, South Africa, and Singapore.

NUSA DUA, Indonesia (Reuters) – The U.S. Treasury Department said on Saturday that U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen met with top officials from Saudi Arabia, Australia, South Africa, and Singapore outside of the Group of 20 (G20) finance meetings in Indonesia.

During the meetings, Yellen criticised Russia’s “unprovoked war against Ukraine, which has caused global spillovers in food, energy, and other commodities.” She also urged countries to support a price cap on Russian oil to stop the flow of money to its military, the Treasury said.

She also talked about how important it was for the G20 to do something about the global food security crisis.

The Treasury said that Yellen met with the Minister of Finance of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed Al-Jadaan, the Treasurer of Australia, Jim Chalmers, the Minister of Finance of South Africa, Enoch Godongwana, and the Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore, Lawrence Wong.

A Treasury official said that she also had dinner with Chrystia Freeland, who is the Minister of Finance for Canada.
