When the Neelum Jhelum project closed, management failed to find fault.

ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) reprimanded the CEO of the project for the closure of the Neelum Jhelum Hydropower Plant and directed him to restore the plant as soon as possible.

The 969 MW Neelum Jhelum Hydro Project has been shut down since July 6 due to a a technical fault. Due to the outage, consumers will have to bear a burden of Rs 35 crore per day due to the supply of electricity from plants running on expensive fuel.

According to a statement issued by Nepra, Nepra officials had asked the management of Neelum Jhelum Hydropower Project for a briefing on the plant, which has been closed since July 6 due to a tenicle fault. The project manager said that experts are looking for the fault, which will be removed as soon as it is identified.

Chairman Nepra Tauseef H. Farooqui and Member Nepra Engineer Maqsood Anwar Khan directed the CEO of Neelum Jhelum Hydropower Project to speed up efforts to restore the plant and connect it to the National Grid. Nepra officials expressed serious concerns over the failure of the power plant’s maintenance operation.

It has been reported that due to the closure of the power plant, electricity consumers are being burdened with a burden of Rs 35 crore per day because, due to the closure of the plant, they are being supplied with electricity made from expensive fuel, which costs them monthly fuel. Adjustment charges will be levied.
