The IHC prohibits the ECP from pursuing action against Prime Minister Imran.

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan’s Election Commission was not allowed to take action against Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday. The Islamabad High Court (IHC) blocked the ECP from taking action against the PM.

During a hearing on a plea of violation of the ECP code of conduct, the electoral commission’s lawyer informed the court that the plaintiffs had breached the KP Local Government Act 2013.

However, the commission may still send out alerts if there is a violation of the code of conduct.

The judge continued the hearing to April 6 and requested arguments at that time.

In their appeal, Imran Khan and Asad Umar said that because of new laws, public office holders can now run for office.

According to Asad Umar, the electoral commission lacks the power to interpret the legislation.
