The decision to put Imran Khan’s name on the ECL will be made on an intra-court appeal.

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) hasn’t decided on an intra-court appeal to look into an alleged letter from the US.

People in Pakistan’s Supreme Court were hearing a case about putting former Prime Minister Imran Khan on the Exit Control List (ECL) as a part of a probe into an alleged US letter.

A two-person bench led by Justice Amir Farooq heard the case.

Imran Khan’s name was already on the ECL, but the IHC didn’t want to look into the alleged threat letter.

While he was giving his verdict, Chief Justice Athar Minallah said that the petitioner had tried to make the cable controversial.

The court has also fined the petitioner Rs 100,000, which must be paid back in 15 days.

Petitioner Maulvi Iqbal Haider wants the court to put the names of former Prime Minister Fawad Chaudhry, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, National Assembly deputy speaker Qasim Suri, and Pakistani diplomat Asad Majeed on the ECL and start a treason case against them unless the “letter gate” issue is looked into.

The CJ said during the hearing that the state should look into it. He asked the petitioner why he was politicizing the issue and what he wanted the court to do.

People should know that on March 27, former Prime Minister Imran Khan waved a letter in front of a crowd and said it was a threat letter against his government from a foreign country.

Imran Khan said that the United States was behind a plan to overthrow his government in Pakistan, and he blamed them.
