AUSTIN, TX —Tesla welcomed hundreds of electric vehicle enthusiasts to Texas on Thursday for a massive celebration called a “cyber rodeo” to celebrate the opening of a production facility the size of 100 soccer fields.
Since Tesla’s CEO and inventor, Elon Musk, tweeted about the event, online interest has skyrocketed. There are rumours that up to 15,000 people will show up for the plant’s official opening in the state capital, Austin.
Photos and videos started to show up on Twitter soon after the huge factory’s doors opened to customers at the end of the day, dressed up like a nightclub.
Under red and blue lighting, visitors mingled among industrial gear and Tesla models exhibited like museum artwork. Outside, automobiles were parked in a style resembling the Texas flag.
On the occasion, Austin resident Karin Richmond told AFP that she believes Tesla will infuse our neighborhood with a new level of flare and high technology.
Work was still going on near the “gigafactory,” which was built with more steel than the Empire State Building in New York City, according to signs.
