PSL anthem, according to Aqib Javed, is unneeded.

LAHORE: The Pakistan Super League anthem is “unnecessary,” according to Lahore Qalandars head coach Aqib Javed, ahead of the tournament’s seventh edition, which kicks off on January 27 with the theme song due days earlier.

“There is no need for an advertising campaign; it is just a waste of money […] nobody wants to see singers,” the head coach told Geo News.

According to the former cricketer, there was a need to market the competition during its early stages, and the song was critical at the time.

Fans now flock to see Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and other cricketers play. There is no bigger celebrity than a cricketer. People do not come to see the singers before the game, “he stated.

The head coach questioned the type of audience that the competition drew as a result of the Pakistan Cricket Board’s previous theme song, “Groove Mera.”

When asked about his team’s anthems, he stated that the franchise had published numerous songs, but none were as well-known as the first.

Javed agreed with PCB Chairman Ramiz Raja’s idea of a quadrangular T20 series including Pakistan, India, Australia, and England.

However, Javed stated that instead of all four teams playing together, the cricket board prioritised the staging of India and Pakistan’s bilateral series. He stated that owing to state tensions, the matches should be played in the United States or Europe.

The head coach also praised Raja, adding he has done well since his hiring. He stated that the squad was doing better and that it was now time for the board to go forward as well.
