Lanning vaults to No. 2 among hitters, while Matthews makes significant strides.

Nat Sciver, whose 109 off 85 balls against Australia was in vain, has climbed up to No. 6 among batsmen.

Meg Lanning, Australia’s skipper, moved up two positions to No. 2 in the ODI batter rankings. She is currently only 15 points behind leader and teammate Alyssa Healy. Lanning scored 86 in Australia’s World Cup opener against England on Saturday, as the hosts won by a narrow 12-run margin.

Rachael Haynes, whose 130 at the top contributed to Australia’s 310, cracked the top ten. She is now at No. 7 after climbing six spots in the rankings. The opener, who was also named Player of the Match, contributed 196 for the second wicket with Lanning. Haynes scored 131 runs off 131 deliveries, including 14 fours and a six.

Nat Sciver of England, who smashed an unbeaten 109 off only 85 balls in a losing cause, also made advances in the batters’ department. Sciver jumped five places to finish sixth, as her quickfire hit kept England alive even though they lost.

Meanwhile, Hayley Matthews of the West Indies surged up all three rankings tables after her all-around performance helped her side defeat hosts New Zealand in an opening-day thriller. In all, West Indies scored 119 in West Indies’ 259-run total, with Matthews scoring the next highest score of 36, in an innings that took 128 deliveries and included 16 fours and a six.

Additionally, she dismissed the hosts’ in-form Amelia Kerr and Brooke Halliday for a cost-effective period of 2 for 41 from 10 overs.
