In lieu of Shahzad Akbar, Musaddiq Abbasi, ex-DG of the National Accountability Bureau, will take over as accountability adviser.

ISLAMABAD: According to reports, the government has nominated Brigadier (Retd) Musaddiq Abbasi, the former director-general of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), as the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Accountability.

According to reports, the appointment notification will be given soon.

Abbasi will take over for longtime advisor Mirza Shahzad Akbar, who resigned on January 24.

Today, I resigned from my position as adviser to the Prime Minister. I genuinely hope that the process of accountability continues under the leadership of PM IK in accordance with the PTI agenda. Akbar sent a message on Twitter: “I will continue to be involved with the party and contribute as a member of the legal fraternity “

On January 26, President Arif Alvi accepted Akbar’s resignation.

Akbar, a former NAB deputy prosecutor, was appointed as the prime minister’s special assistant on accountability in August 2018.

Later, in December 2019, he was granted the additional position of prime minister’s adviser on internal issues.

In July 2020, the lawyer was appointed as the prime minister’s adviser on accountability and the interior, with the rank of federal minister.
