The Swiss National Bank said on Monday that it lost 142.67 billion Swiss francs ($132 billion) a year in 2022, the most it has ever lost in its 115-year history.
The value of the central bank’s stock and bond portfolio went down when the stock and fixed-income markets went down. The value also went down when the Swiss franc got stronger.
The loss on Monday was bigger than the previous biggest loss, which was 23 billion francs in 2015. In 2021, the company made a profit of 26 billion francs. It is equal to a little bit more than Morocco’s annual GDP.
$1 is worth 0.9252 Swiss francs.
