ISLAMABAD, Prime Minister Imran Khan says the government may call early elections if he defeats the National Assembly’s no-confidence vote against him.
He said in an interview that holding early elections is a good idea and would benefit the nation. He said that he would fight to the last ball rather than quit.
In response to a question, Imran Khan said that he desires a foreign policy that protects the rights of Pakistanis and promotes respect for the Green Passport. Pakistan’s foreign policy, he said, should be built on friendly ties with other nations. He said that Pakistan may be a peace partner rather than a war partner.
Imran Khan said that the previous Prime Minister, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, followed an independent foreign policy, but regrettably, certain domestic forces conspired against him in concert with international powers.
He said that it was ridiculous for a foreign government to say that if Imran Khan gets a no-confidence vote, Islamabad will be in big trouble.
In response to a query, he said that Pakistan needs a robust military and that he would never speak badly of our army. He said that he would refrain from taking any action that would jeopardize the strength of our army. He said that the military had been targeted by Nawaz Sharif and his daughter. He said that there were also threats to his life, as the country’s adversaries were aware that Imran Khan would not remain mute in the face of this plot.
The Prime Minister said that the leader of the opposition, Shahbaz Sharif, was called to a meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security to personally check the document’s truthfulness, but he didn’t show up.
In response to another question on the PTI’s recent success in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s local government elections, the Prime Minister said that our vote bank has grown in these polls, indicating our party’s growing popularity among the populace.
