ECNEC has authorised four road infrastructure projects totaling Rs 130 billion for Punjab.

The Executive Committee of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) during a meeting held in Islamabad on Monday, approved 4 road projects in Punjab worth Rs130 billion.

In a tweet, Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar said the road projects include Kamalia-Shorkot-Chowk Azam-Layyah; Hasilpur-Bahawalnagar; Vehari-Pakpattan-Debalpur, and Shorkot-Jhang.

The meeting endorsed the K-4 project, which is based on a brand new design with a cost of about Rs126 billion.

He stated that 26 crore gallons of water would be delivered to Karachi by the end of October next year. The Federal government has fulfilled another pledge in Karachi’s Transformation Plan.

It is also reported that the ECNEC also approved an R96 billion project for sanitation and clean water for the rural areas of 16 Tehsils in South Punjab.

Umar claimed that the ECNEC also confirmed the Rawalpindi-Kharian Motorway to be built as part of the Public-Private Partnership.

The project will be completed at a cost of Rs30 billion within 30 months.

Commenting on the decision to approve this project, the Minister of Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry in a tweet, stated that this project will usher in an era of growth within North as well as Central Punjab.

He stated that 42 constituencies in the National Assembly would benefit from the project. He claimed that this project would cut by 100 km in distance Islamabad between Islamabad and Lahore.
