Citigroup hires three people for its China securities business – source

Citigroup

Hong Kong (Reuters): A person who knows about the matter says that Citigroup (NYSE:C) has hired three bankers for its planned China securities business.

A source said that it hired Kenneth Koo as the company’s CEO, Rochelle Wei from JPMorgan (NYSE: JPM) to run its futures business, and John Lu to run its onshore equities business.

Citigroup didn’t want to say anything.

When asked for comments on LinkedIn, Koo and Lu did not respond right away. Wei did not respond right away to an email asking for a comment from him.

Koo used to be the head of Citigroup’s joint venture with Orient Securities on the mainland, which ended in 2019.

Thursday was the first day that Bloomberg News wrote about the new appointments.

Citigroup tried to get a securities licence for mainland China last year as part of its plan to do more business in the market.
