Sanjay Leela Bhansali recounted the actress’s response to ‘packing her bags and leaving‘ his office.
He said in an interview with Zoom that he recalled telling Prerna Singh, the CEO of his production, that they would have to hunt for another actor.
As the director put it, “When she first heard the narration, she grabbed her suitcase and bolted out of my office.”She was perplexed as to what had happened to her and what type of position I had promised her. She has just fled. Because… well, I wanted her to do it.
The next morning, Bhansali got a call from Alia, requesting to meet with him. “I said you don’t have to come see me personally to say no to me,” he said, leaving the Student of the Year star in stitches. She said that she would just carry out his instructions. “I said, go into the unknown; I have no idea what I’m going to do,” he said.
Gangubai Kathiawadi, starring Alia Bhatt, is due for release on February 25th. The film is inspired by the life of ‘Gangubai,‘ a madam in Mumbai’s red-light district during the 1960s.
