A no-confidence vote against Chief Minister Usman Buzdar was put forward in the Punjab Assembly on Monday by the combined opposition groups. They were unhappy with how he had been running the country.

It came about after the opposition passed a no-confidence resolution and there was a lot of pressure inside the PTI to fire the current chief minister.

At least 126 MPs from opposition parties, including Ramzan Siddique, Malik Ahmed, and Mian Naseer, signed the no-confidence resolution against Buzdar, says Rana Mashood of the PML-N. He says 119 MPs signed the call for a meeting.

“The majority of the House has lost trust in CM Usman Bazdar,” said the resolution.

It said that the chief minister isn’t running the state of Punjab in accordance with the Constitution, and that has hurt the state’s democratic principles.

On the other hand, Shahbaz Gill, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Political Communication (SAPM), claimed that the PML-Q, a key ally of the government in the Centre and Punjab, will support Prime Minister Imran Khan in the face of the Opposition’s no-confidence motion against him tabled in the National Assembly today.

“The PTI has proclaimed its support for Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi as a candidate for Punjab chief minister, while the PML-Q has expressed its support for the Prime Minister during the no-confidence vote,” Gill said on Twitter.

In Bani Gala, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan met with the speaker of the Punjab Assembly. This was just after the National Assembly passed a vote of no-confidence in Khan.
